For over four years, we've been SAMG's agency-of-record for all of their digital marketing efforts

ScrippsAMG styleguide

To support consistency in our ongoing design efforts and with other vendors and internal resources, we developed a robust digital styleguide to cover standards around logo use, colors, typography, language, photography, graphics, etc.

Scripps Mercy Physician Partners site design

SAMG decided to merge two of its sub-brands, and we took the opportunity to severely freshen up their look.

Social media support

Part of our brand-wide design support included production of images for social media marketing, including a variety of ads, profile images, and testing support across Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Site design & optimization

Over four years ago, we quickly put up a bootstrapped site. Since then we've been maintaining it and creating supporting pages for things like case studies, PPC campaign landings pages, and integration launch marketing landing pages.

Print design

Ongoing, wide-ranging print design

Over the years, we've done a ton of (usually quick turnaround) print projects to support the SAMG brand and its subbrands, including business cards, conference signs, flyers, posters, and more.

Social media profile design

Part of deploying a professional brand is ensuring that brand looks good — and consistent — across all touchpoints. Social media channels also need to show consistent, professional-grade activity.

Blog, social media, and email marketing

Content marketing is the pillar of successful ongoing digital marketing. Here we have been producing keyword- and conversion-optimized blog posts for years, pushing them out to create social media activity as well as fodder for email newsletters. Triple-dipping for the win.

iQuoteXpress branding

iQuoteXpress needed to be able to hold its head high when up against the big boys, but on a budget. We did a condensed branding project, including logo and styleguide with logo, typography, photography, and iconography guidelines. Below we show some of "how the sausage is made", from pencil sketches to early digtial work, on the way to the final treatments (images below are in chronological order) and style standards.

Ad production

We helped National Funding produce a wide array of digital advertisements for placement on-site and off-site. They had a keen eye on testing and optimization, so we produce a ton of variations (about 100× what's shown below).

Tactical site optimization

With its eye admirably on analytics, National Funding was interested in testing a variety of solutions to high-traffic, high-ROI areas of their site. We brainstormed to identify opportunities, then iterated on such pieces as a key conversion form, the home page hero, site interruptor, and blog post layout.

Wide-ranging design support

In our role as ongoing design support for National Funding, we helped a wide range of tactical projects. Tiny things from image optimization (not shown here, because that's awfully boring) to ebook formatting, social media branding, module design, landing page design, email design, and more. Typically very practical stuff, not very showy for a portfolio.

Site architecture & wireframes

Remember Kony 2012? After that blew up and settled down, Invisible Children was ready to revamp their site. Fifty&Fifty — an excellent agency in downtown San Diego — was their go-to agency. They brought us in to handle the site architecture and wireframing.

UX for stem cell analysis

LifeTechnologies (and later ThermoFisher, post-acquisition) needed an interface to visualize the results of their sophisticated stem cell analyses. The end user might be a busy tech quickly scanning many results, or a highly-specialized medical researcher digging deep into the statistics. We were brought in twice, by different agencies (Digitaria/Mirum, then later Departure) to handle the UX. We came up with a sophisticated, customizable display that made a lot of information and functionality available when needed, but togglable or hidden when not.

UX for processing blood samples

Life Technologies (later acquired by ThermoFisher) was looking to improve the interface that lab technicians used to submit blood samples. There were some sophisticated use cases and edge cases, and it was vital information was entered correctly. Digitaria/Mirum brought us in to handle the UX design.

Site redesign UX

Mercy Ships is an international charity that brings hospital ships to provide medical and related services to areas with little to no medical care infrastructure. Their website was hard to navigate and not helping their brand; they were looking for a total redesign. We flattened out the site hierarchy (check out the before/after sitemaps below), built out a more interconnected taxonomy to promote browsing and cross-promotion, and laid out a consistent, usable set of UX templates. We worked with the always fantastic Fifty & Fifty on this one.

Holistic, ground-up site redesign

After proving ourselves on a small, tactical project, Milgard wanted us (BusinessOnline brought us in to handle the site design) to massively modernize their website. We iterated for months, landing on a beautiful, functional, culture-pushing site redesign. The information architecture was color-coded and carried through into the wireframes to clarify the taxonomy relationships. We kept the visual design reserved, professional, clean, and consistent. We kept responsive design paramount throughout. Then we documented for handoff to dev and stuck around to collaborate.

UX design for a fitness watch

We got to work with Digitaria/Mirum on a very early fitness device. We were charged with designing the user experience for the web-based dashboard, and got to suggestion functionality and build our dream fitness dashboard. We started with user flows and then a site map, then got into inventing new ways of onboarding a new user, visualizing highly-customizable exercise data, surfacing key performance stats, building custom report and goals tools using natural human language, etc. And then we packaged it up with a styleguide for further development by Digi and Qualcomm. Delicious work.

Improve SonyStyle's eCommerce UX

Okay, this is ages ago at this point, but it was a good experience and worth sharing. Sapient brought us in repeatedly to help with UX for long-time client Sony. We worked on improving their eCommerce user experience.

Data viz-heavy dashboard UX

Harte-Hanks brought us in to help lower customer service costs they were incurring due to poor usability in their TargetSmart tool, which was used to help sales teams identify the quality of leads. We did a bunch of explorations around visualising more information, more simply, that told a better story.

Data-viz widget to show database activity

We worked with Teradata on their data visualization dashboard, which database admins used to monitor the health and wellbeing of their huge Teradata systems. The dashboard was modular; this module was aimed at turning a table of figures into a meaningful visualization of CPU usage. The user could customize the module to include the metrics they cared about, to show ranges in addition to averages, to highlight data over custom thresholds, and more.

UX for a "magic" table

We worked with Teradata on their data visualization dashboard, which database admins used to monitor the health and wellbeing of their huge Teradata systems. The dashboard was modular, and many modules had a pretty standard table view of data. We redesigned a much more ambitious table that maintained usability but included a ton of functionality: column selection, filtering, sorting, custom view presets, column reordering, pagination, threshold highlighting, row highlighting, frozen header rows and columns, column grouping… that's a fancy table, no?

We worked with Teradata on their data visualization dashboard, which database admins used to monitor the health and wellbeing of their huge Teradata systems. Data-viz supertable for helping investment advisors spot opportunities

Gurtin's investment advisors were keeping their eyes peeled all day and night for opportunities buried in mountains of data. Our task was to increase their hit rate and simplify this effort by creating a table view specifically optimized to highlight investment opportunities as defined by each advisor personally. We started with UX (moving up to the high-fidelity wireframes shown below) and then on to full graphic design.
